Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville, Valley Baptist-Harlingen Receive an “A” for Patient Safety in Spring 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

HARLINGEN/BROWNSVILLE –Valley Baptist-Harlingen and Valley Baptist-Brownsville both earned a grade “A” in a recent national safety study conducted by Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit healthcare ratings organization.

As part of the national safety study, Leapfrog Group scores hospitals on how safe they keep their patients from errors, injuries accidents and infections. Scores are graded on a scale from A – F, based on 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data.

“Consistently high scores from Leapfrog reflect our commitment to providing our patients with the safe, quality care they deserve,” said Leslie Bingham, CEO of Valley Baptist-Brownsville. “As one of the Valley’s leading health providers, Valley Baptist-Brownsville strives to continually improve its performance in clinical care and patient satisfaction. It’s gratifying to see independent recognition of those efforts.”

Valley Baptist’s two campuses were among 750 hospitals awarded an ‘A’ for efforts in protecting patients and meeting high safety standards. Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are updated every spring and fall following assessments of more than 2,500 hospitals across the country.

“Leapfrog is considered by many as the gold standard for measuring patient care, and we are pleased to see Valley Baptist Health System well-represented among the top-performing U.S. hospitals,” said Many Vela, CEO for Valley Baptist Health System and Valley Baptist-Harlingen. “Recognition of this sort does not happen by chance. It is possible only through the dedication and tireless work of our nurses, physicians, and ancillary staff at both facilities who treat our patients as though they were family.”
