Taking care of some business matters is becoming easier and easier for residents of La Feria and its nearby communities.

The same goes for anyone who happens to be in this neck of the woods.

Cameron County Clerk Sylvia Garza-Perez has opened a satellite office in the county annex building at 200 Industrial Way for the “convenience of the constituents.”

“We are blessed to continue expanding for the residents of La Feria, Santa Rosa, Santa Maria and other communities,” she said during Wednesday’s unveiling of the new office. “Area residents now have a number of services they did not have before.”

Among them Garza-Perez mentioned property recordings, issuance of marriage licenses and vital records, filing for military discharge, DBA filings and court cost and traffic ticket payments.

She said the new office is the result of having morning talks over coffee with Tony Yzaguirre, the county’s tax-assessor collector.

Yzaguirre said people have been asking them about providing more services in this part of the county.

He said he opened a satellite office here in 2002 and graciously accepted the idea of having another county office even though the building doesn’t have a lot of space.

In addition to his and the new clerk’s office, which opened on Monday, Sept. 17, the county’s annex facility houses Justice of the Peace Mike Trejo and Constable Eddie Solis offices.

And with the addition, about a dozen people now work there, including county clerk employee Amanda Barbosa.

Garza-Perez is serving her second year in office and took the seat held before by longtime county clerk Joe G. Rivera.

Andres Contreras, the mayor of Santa Rosa, thanked the county officials for making things easier for them and for all the people in this part of the county.

La Feria resident Bob Burns agreed, saying “I am for it.”
