Lions Drop District Opener to Bobcats
- Updated: October 25, 2013
by Coach Jaime Acuna
The La Feria Lions fell to the Rio Hondo Bobcats 40 – 27 last Friday night at Lion Stadium. The game was the district opener for both teams and a very important one since 32-3A only consists of five teams.
With so few teams, every game is crucial this year. The Bobcats jumped out early and lead the Lions 20 – 0 at halftime. The Lions came out of halftime knowing they had to play better, but the big first half deficit proved to be the difference.
The Lions went on to face the Port Isabel Tarpons in Port Isabel last Friday night. The Lions will have to bounce back from the Rio Hondo loss and have their A+ game ready to go as the Tarpons are ranked as high as # 9 in state in some Texas High School Football polls. The Lions are very capable of upsetting Port Isabel and believe they will turn it around as they face one of their oldest and most heated rivalries in the Tarpons. A win, puts them into great position to make the playoffs for the second year in a row.
The boys have had a great week of practice and the seniors have stepped it up as leaders, knowing that they only have three games left to prove what their legacy will be while suiting up for the lion program. The Lions will be ready, good luck to them and God bless.
