The owners of the new LOS AMIGOS TEX-MEX Restaurant that just opened on Main Street is the latest business to find La Feria’s business climate exactly to their liking. The already popular restaurant marks a success story for owners, Mary and Fred Gomez.

This enterprising couple came to La Feria and opened their first restaurant on West Oleander in 2009. They saw an opportunity for their brand of cooking and personal service, so they bought a home here and opened for business. They eventually outgrew their first location and needed more space. Owner Mary Gomez said, “We simply had to find a bigger and better place, and this location downtown was perfect for us. Our customers demanded it,”

Mary ventured that people seem to like their style of “Tex-Mex” cooking. “The Winter Texans have already discovered us along with our many new and regular customers,” she said. “Just look around, and you’ll see tables of people from many northern states.”

“For me personally, this is what I have always wanted to do,” she added, “I was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico and grew up helping my grandfather in his restaurant there to cook and serve his customers. I was a 10-year-old girl wanting to learn and do everything.. My grandfather taught me to treat people not like customers, but like family. I am trying to carry on that tradition. That’s why restaurant work just seemed natural for me, and what I wanted to do.”

“At LOS AMIGOS Restaurant, we try to bring the unique taste and the favorite dishes from both sides of the border to our customers in the Valley,” she said, adding, “My family and I really love our life in La Feria.. And, our name tells how we view our customers,” she said. “We want them to feel welcome, relaxed and become part of our family of friends.”

They serve their customers seven days a week at the downtown location (Monday-Friday 6:00 a.m until 8 p.m./Saturday and Sunday 6:00 am until 3:00 p.m.). In addition, they also do catering and deliver to groups of any size. “We deliver to local business, churches and schools,” she explained. “They simply call us with the menu and the number of personas to be served–”It could be for a dozen or over a 100—we can handle it..”
