CAMP CASEY — La Feria native Command Sgt. Maj. Pedro Guevara (center) receives the guidon from U.S Army Garrison Casey Commander Lt. Col. Edward D. Eldridge Nov. 12. Guevara replaces Command Sgt. Maj. Alexander M. Peden as the garrison’s senior enlisted leader.

Camp Casey is a U.S. military base in Dongducheon (also sometimes spelled Tongduchŏn or TDC), South Korea, 40 miles (64 km) north of Seoul, South Korea. Camp Casey was named in 1952 after Major Hugh Boyd Casey, who was killed in an plane crash near Camp Casey during the Korean War. Camp Casey is one of several U.S. Army bases in South Korea near the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). Camp Casey is home to several of the main combat units in the First Brigade of the Second Infantry Division.

Command Sergeant Major Pedro Guevara is a native of La Feria, Texas. He reported to active duty on October 19, 1990 where he completed One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Georgia as an Infantryman. Four years later, he re-enlisted as a military police Soldier and attended Advanced Individual Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama.

CSM Guevara has served in variety of positions including Bradley Driver, Anti-Armor Gunner, Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Battalion Operations NCO, Company Operations NCO, First Sergeant, Battalion Command Sergeant Major, USASMA Operations Sergeant Major and Provost Sergeant Major.
