Abbott Names Valley Judge as His Pick for Secretary of State

AUSTIN –Attorney General Greg Abbott, who takes office in January, said in the Rio Grande Valley Tuesday he will name Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos as his secretary of state, a television station reported.
Cameron County Commissioner David Garza told KGBT Action 4 News that Cascos will serve as county judge until he learns when he will start his new job. Cascos was just re-elected.
His appointment as secretary of state will requires Texas Senate confirmation.
The current secretary of state is Nandita Berry of Houston. She was appointed by Perry in December 2013 and is the first Indian American to hold the post.
