Kenwood RV Park Hosts Craft Sale

Popular Event Draws Hundreds

40 vendors had lots of visitors during the annual Craft Sale.

Every winter tourist season, Kenwood RV Park hosts Craft Sales that bring hundreds of visitors and vendors to La Feria. This year, over 40 vendors and exhibitors paid their fees and displayed their wares–everything from home-made toys and gadgets to jewelry, books and clothing–you name it, and it was probably there.

Marian Finken, Chairperson for the Craft Sales each winter, said, “The turnout this year for the final March sale was very good. People come to the sale from many other parks, as well as local citizens who enjoy seeing all the exhibits.” Marian is from Indiana. Her assistants are Joan Jensen, who comes from Nebraska, and Donna Brinkley from Kansas. “We have lots of fun, and they give us a chance to keep up with our friends.”

Crystal Cruz and Jenny de Leon are from La Feria and operate the park’s main office. They are the ones you talk to when you call about vacancies and activities in the Park. “We really enjoy welcoming and working with the regulars each year,” Crystal said.

Mayor Steve Brewer said at the beginning of the season, “We are really excited that they have chosen to make La Feria their ‘winter home away from home’ year after year. They bring their culture, their activities and their personalities to the local scene. We especially appreciate their support of our local events like FIESTA LA FERIA.” The winter visitors can always be depended on to share in charitable projects like supporting the local library and the volunteer fire department with their time and their donations.

LA FERIA NEWS spoke with some of the visitors at Kenwood RV Park and visitors from other parks. We asked why they continue to choose our area with so many other places around. Besides the obvious–the location and the weather–they said they find Valley folks pleasant and the city “nice”. Many of them come from small towns about the size of La Feria and just feel comfortable in the laid-back life-style. “People greet you when they don’t even know you,” one fellow from up North exclaimed. “I like that; they don’t do that where I come from.”
Well, this season is about over. It’s been said the winter tourists like to come south after Thanksgiving and want to be home with the family for Easter and taxes. That just about explains and outlines their time of arrival and signals the time to “get back home.”
