Lions Dominate Battle of 506
- Updated: September 18, 2015
La Feria Prevails 35 – 6
by Coach Jaime Acuna
This year’s Battle of 506 with the Santa Rosa Warriors went just as the Lions had hoped it would. Not only was it the first home game of the new season, but it was also Parent’s Night.
The Lions worked hard all week to prepare for this game. It was important for them to do well in front of their home crowd and to continue the tradition of beating Santa Rosa.
La Feria struck first when quarterback Isaac Galpin hit wide receiver Isaiah Martinez on a 61 yard touchdown pass to give the Lions an early lead.
The Lions went on to score three more touchdowns to put the game away 35 – 0 with less than two minutes left in the game.
Brandon Perez had three touchdowns and Julian Trevino put in the final nail in the coffin for the night.
The Lion defense was also impressive, holding the Warriors to just one score, which came relatively late in the game.
Free safety Mohammed Mughrabi had a crucial interception early in the game to take away the Warriors’ momentum.
The Lions put pressure on Santa Rosa quarterback Leo Lara throughout the night and were effective against the run.
Linebacker Jorge Badillo recorded nine tackles while defensive lineman Ryan Puente had a team high ten tackles which included three tackles for a loss.
All in all, the Lions came out ready to play and performed at a high level to move their record to 2 – 0 for the year.
