Lions Fall to Mercedes 21 – 6
- Updated: September 25, 2015
by Coach Jaime Acuna
The game between La Feria and Mercedes began just like every game between the rivals has for the last three years – with plenty of rain.
Heavy downpours consumed the Mercedes Tigers’ new stadium which made it difficult for both teams to move the ball downfield The Tigers used this to their advantage by pounding the ball on the ground with a tough running game.
Two rushing touchdowns put the Tigers ahead 14 – 0 going into halftime. Another score in the second half increased their lead to 21 – 0.
The Lion defense came through with an interception by safety Mohammed Mughrabi late in the game and returned it all the way to the one yard line to set up the Lion’s first score of the game.
The Lion offense punched it in shortly after to make the score 21 – 6. That’s as close as the Lions would get as Mercedes went on to win the game 21 – 6.
It was a tough physical game with lots of hitting on both sides of the ball. The boys gave it their all and that’s all you can really ask from your players.
