H-E-B’S Help End Hunger Campaign Dontates 2.1 Million Meals to Texas Food Banks
- Updated: October 2, 2015
Food Bank of Rio Grande Valley Receives $13,200
H-E-B customers in Texas took a stand against hunger with another record-breaking Help End Hunger campaign, raising $611,200 to benefit 17 Texas Feeding America food banks.
A check in the amount of $13,200 was presented on Wednesday, September 16th to the Food Bank as result of a tear-pad campaign that ran May 6 – July 19, 2015. Tear-off coupons in the amounts of $1, $3 and $5 were located at checkout stands in area H-E-B grocery stores, where customers could add the desired donation amount to their final grocery bill to benefit their local food bank. As a result of the donation, more than 46,200 meals will be made available to area residents served by the food bank.
Now in its 25th year, Help End Hunger is a component of H-E-B’s nationally recognized Food Bank Assistance program, giving customers the opportunity to help their local food bank in the fight against hunger and malnutrition among thousands of children, elderly and needy families in communities throughout Texas and Mexico.
H-E-B Food Bank Assistance Program is one of the strongest in the nation. Last year, H-E-B delivered 28.5 million pounds of food and nonperishable items worth more than $46.7 million to food banks on both sides of the border. Since the inception of the Food Bank Assistance Program in 1982, H-E-B has contributed over 980 million pounds of food. This number equates to 3.43 billion meals provided to those in need.
