Valley Symphony Orchestra Presents POPS With All That Jazz

The Valley Symphony Orchestra & Chorale (VSO) and Dr. Peter Dabrowski, Music Director/Conductor presents POPS With All That Jazz – VSO Concert IV featuring Dr. Kurt Martinez, guitar in Myer’s Cavatina accompanied by the Valley Symphony Orchestra musicians. The music program will also include music by Brahms, Gershwin, Ellington and Strayhorn. This concert will be held at UTRGV Performing Arts Complex located on 1200 W. University Drive in Edinburg on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. Doors will open as early as 7:00 p.m.

Dr. Kurt Martinez completed his Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Wisconsin- Madison; he also holds degrees in guitar performance from Georgia State University and the University of Miami. Dr. Martinez has studied with some of the finest teachers in the world including, Javier Calderon, Angelo Gilardino and Juan Mercadal. He has also performed in master classes for many world-renowned artists such as Christopher Parkening and Manuel Barrueco. His studies have taken him to Europe, where he attended the Corsi Internazionali di Chitarra in Muzzano, Italy and also studied flamenco guitar in Madrid, Jerez de la Frontera, Granada and Cordoba Spain, with numerous distinguished guitarists. Dr. Kurt Martinez currently holds the position of Associate Professor of Music at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, where he Chairs and heads a thriving guitar program.
