Spring Job Fair Connects Prospective Employers with Job Seekers

The La Feria Chamber of Commerce Spring Job Fair turned the La Feria Recreation Center into an employment agency of sorts last week when the much anticipated event took place. This year, the City of La Feria joined forces with the Chamber of Commerce to give people of Cameron County an opportunity to see what’s available, and help them find a job according to Reva Ayala.

Reva Ayala is the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Special Events Coordinator. Ayala also is an Administrative Assistant to city hall. She said, “the Chamber and the city administration were very pleased with the participation of many top-rated, major companies that set up tables, and the number of visitors who came seeking a new job, a better job, or wanting to change careers.” She was joined for the event by Greg Purcell, Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce.

The City of La Feria was represented by Eric Hoff, City Commissioner and Member of the Chamber of Commerce.

Ayala said this year’s job fair was bigger and better than the same event last year. “There were 16 major employers who manned booths during the job fair, and over 165 job seekers who connected with these companies,” she said, adding, “the companies attending expressed appreciation for the La Feria Job Fair, and said they had met with good, qualified candidates who are in the process of being hired.”

The Chamber listed the following employers present for the Job Fair: A.C.T., Bert Ogden; City of La Feria; Cricket Wireless; Dairy Queen; DISH; Family Heritage; La Feria I.S.D.; Primerica Financial Services; Sylvan Learning Center; TSTC; UT-Rio Grande Valley; Valley Metro (RGVDC); Whataburger; Workforce Solutions Cameron

President Ayala thanked all the employers who participated, also the Chamber and City of La Feria members who worked hard to make it a success. She also said the Chamber thanked the La Feria Recreational Center workers for their tremendous cooperation during the day-long job fair.

Ayala also got in a plug for the Chamber: “We now have 30 members and are always looking for new civic-minded people to join the Chamber of Commerce. You don’t have to be a business owner, just an interested citizen. We also have some exciting things in the works you might want to be a part of,” she hinted.
