Isidro Delgado promoted to head department

The announcement that Officer Isidro “Sid” Delgado has been named to head the Cameron County Constable’s office was met with approval by those who know him. He will replace the position held by Cesar Diaz who is now the Chief of Police in La Feria.

The new head of the department brings with him his 21 years of experience in law enforcement. Delgado has been a patrol officer with the County Constable office since 2001. Before that, he had worked with the La Feria Police Deparment from 1996 until 2001 when he joined the Cameron County Constable’s office.

Delgado said his interest in law enforcement began while he was still in high school.

He graduated from Harlingen High School in 1988. With that desire to be a police officer, he got the necessary training he needed at the Police Academy in Brownsville.

“My first job as a uniformed police officer was as a Security Guard,” he said as he looked back on his career. “Another opportunity came for me was when I was next hired as a patrol officer with the Santa Rosa Police Department. I was learning all along the way.”

“1996 was a pivotal year for me, because that was the year I was hired as the Communications Officer by Chief of Police Robert “Bobby” Gonzalez,” he said. “I was later promoted to Patrol Officer and continued working with the La Feria Police Department when Donato Garcia became the next Chief of Police, and the rest is history.”

“It was under those two men that I learned what it means to be a police patrolman and an administrator,” he said. “I have great respect for them, and I am greatly indebted to them.”

The Constable said that this varied background helps him to know what his men experience in carrying out their duties. “I know what they are going through on patrol and what it takes to better help them with the situations they will encounter,” he said knowingly, adding: “Been there and done that.”

LA FERIA NEWS asked him about his thoughts on his new position and what he plans for the future of the department.

In reply, he said, “I am honored and privileged to be given this position of trust and confidence by the County, and I have the full support of my wife Isabel,” adding, “she is delighted with my new responsibility and supports me in all my endeavours. ‘

“I come into a law enforcement organization that is well organized and very efficient. I know my men and look forward to working with them as their Constable,” Delgado said. About the future? “We’ll know when I get there.”

La Feria welcomes the new Constable as he assumes his responsibilities from his offices in La Feria and Harlingen.
