La Feria residents and law enforcement collect donations for the victims of last month’s historic flooding in Southern Louisiana
This past August prolonged rainfall in southern parts of Louisiana resulted in catastrophic flooding that submerged thousands of houses and businesses. Louisiana’s governor, John Bel Edwards, called the disaster an “historic, unprecedented flooding event” and declared a state of emergency.
Many rivers and waterways, particularly the Amite and Comite rivers, reached record levels, and rainfall exceeded 20 inches in multiple parishes.
Because of the large number of homeowners without flood insurance that were affected, donations and aid from various organizations, as well as the federal government, have been mobilized over the course of the following month.
Local donations came from La Feria Chief of Police Cesar Rene Diaz, La Feria Police Department, Eliza M. Rodriguez, Janie Campos, Almaraz Wrecker and Charlie Wrecker.
