Following the usual protocol of a city meeting (invocation, pledge and determination of quorum), the commission went on to hear the public comments of La Feria residents, Yolanda Schoffeitt and Dolores Fuller.

Schoffeitt went before the committee and expressed her concerns regarding tires littered through the alleys and on some main streets in the city as well as the many stray cats that linger in her front yard. Fuller then went before the commission simply to express her gratitude towards them.

“I want to thank you for all the times that you have put up with me,” said Fuller.

After the commission approved the minutes of the previous city meetings (Nov. 8 and Nov. 22), Frank Rios, finance director, went before the commission and encouraged the approval for the city of La Feria to change its check signing process from manual signature to secure signature. After Rios explained to the commission all the pros of switching to digital signatures, a motion was made and passed.

Following the tabling of any action regarding the review of proposals for the Parker Road Elevated Storage Tank Rehabilitation Project, the commission then received a brief report on any pending projects the city has.

The commission then proceeded to closed executive session where they remained for an hour and a half. While in deliberation, the commission approved the termination of the current contract with Linebarger, Googan, Blair and Sampson for the delinquent municipal court fees and fine collections. The commission also tabled any action regarding the approval of appointing the firm Perdue, Brandon, Fielder, Collins and Mott for the collection of delinquent municipal court fees and fine collections.

The meeting was then adjourned. The next city meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 6:30 PM in the city commission meeting room located at 115 E. Commercial Avenue.
