Lionette varsity basketball prepares for another successful season
by Karina Diaz
Basketball season has officially begun for the La Feria Lionettes. The ladies are now going to have to defend their district title for this upcoming season.
To start off their season, at their very own Tommie Wiseman Basketball Tournament, On December 1st through the 3rd the Lionettes got second place. The ladies defeated other Valley teams such as the Mission Eagles, Raymondville Bearkats, and the La Joya Coyotes. Assistant coach, Coach Delia Lopez has expressed her pride and her thoughts about the team.
“We had a rocky start. We still have a lot of ‘wrinkles’ to iron out with learning new plays and getting in shape for district play,” Coach Lopez said.
Coach Lopez strongly thinks that this year’s team is capable of winning the district title.
“The key to a successful year is going to be hard work, commitment and dedication because that’s what it’s going to to take to win the district title and get our team ready for playoffs,” coach said.
Senior Syerra Montalvo knows it’s going to take a lot of dedication to win this year.
“The season has started off great considering previous years. The team seemed ready, like they were just waiting for the basketball season to start,” Syerra said.
“We did lose some players, but new ones filled their spots. The only things these new players don’t have is that the old ones did was experience. However, everyone is on the same page everyone is on the same page, everyone wants the same thing, and everyone is dedicated.”
