Superintendent’s Celebrations

The La Feria Independent School District held its lastest regular meeting on Monday, February 13th.

La Feria ISD Superintendent Raymundo Villarreal and members of the La Feria ISD School Board recognized several students as part of their regular Superintendent Celebrations.

The “Superintendent Celebration” is a way to congratulate and recognize the achievements of students and members of the La Feria School District.

Forty three La Feria HS choir students participated in the 2017 UIL Solo and Ensemble contest at Pace HS in Brownsville.

The students were very successful this year, bringing home seventeen 1st Division medals on Grade 3 solos; four 1st Division medals on Grade 2 solos and twelve 1st Division medals on Grade 1 solos.

Ten students received Excellent Division 2 ratiangs on their solos.

Sam Houston Elementary Chess Team members Kathya Lopez and Victoria Gutierrez were also recognized by Superintendent Villarreal and School Board.

Each month, the United States Chess Federation (USCF) publishes lists of top 100 players in the country by age and gender.

In January, Kathya Lopez was ranked #81 on the list of nine year old girls. Victoria Gutierrez was ranked #31 on the list of girls seven and under.

This is the first time La Feria ISD chess students have ranked on the USCF Top 100 list. Congratulations to both girls!
