The La Feria city commission held its regularly scheduled city meeting on Tuesday, March 28, in the La Feria city commission meeting room.
Following the approval of minutes from the previous city meeting as well as the approval of a proclamation in support of fair housing month, the commission went on to renew a contract with Motorola for radio maintenance services.

The commission then approved to provide a letter of support to UTRGV’s school of medicine for the application for Health Resources and Services Administrators (HRSA) and Area Health Education Centers Program (AHEC).

City manager, Jaime Sandoval, then presented the commission with an ordinance to amend the city’s current code of ordinances regarding subdivision regulations. The amendment would include the city manager’s authority to approve amendments to minor plats. According to Sandoval, due to the current ordinance, the city cannot issue a building permit to the owner of an unplatted piece of property. The amendment to the current ordinance will allow property owners to utilize their money towards the actual construction or improvement to their home rather than spend the money on the subdivision process. A motion was made to approve the amendment and passed.

The commission then approved a professional services agreement with SAM Engineering and Surveying, INC. for engineering services. Humberto Garza, a representative from SAMES, informed the commission of the services that will be provided by SAMES, “We want to be as involved as you will allow us to be and everything from understanding the city’s needs and weaknesses and at the same time understanding the assets. We are ready to work. My objective is to see progress here in La Feria,” said Garza.

After the commission emerged from executive session, where there was no action, the meeting was adjourned.

The next city meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 11, in the city commission meeting room located at 115 E. Commercial Avenue.
