The La Feria city commission held a regularly scheduled city meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 22, in the city commission meeting room. Following the invocation, pledge and determination of quorum, the commission approved the minutes for the previous city meetings (Aug. 8 & Aug. 16) as well as the quarterly investment report.

After accepting the certification regarding anticipated tax collection rate and debt service requirement, the commission approved a tax rate of .76.
While there is no change in the tax rate, finance director, Frank Rios, informed those in attendance that adopting the same tax rate does not mean city taxes will not go up.

“If their [residents] appraisal value came in higher than what their appraisal value was last year, then it will go up by the difference- based on the city’s tax rate.”

Before going into executive session, the commission tabled the presentation and consideration of the financial audit for the fiscal year ending in September 30, 2016.

After less than half an hour in executive session, the commission emerged and approved an agreement with Bickerstaff, Heath, Delgado & Acosta LLP regarding SB 1004.

Before adjourning, the commission approved the La Feria Irrigation District’s work on AN-47 and Wilson Road Canal Project and the assignment of work to MorWill.

The next city meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 12, in the city commission meeting room, located at 115 E. Commercial Avenue.
