Street Repairs a Priority for New Year

Some projects of infrastructure such as improvements to a city’s water and sewer system are always an ongoing process for a municipality like the City of La Feria.
And much of that is implemented through grants sought out and awarded either by state or federal agencies.
For the New Year, the city is to receive $275,000 from an annual allocation and it will provide $50,000 in matching funds.
City Manager Jaime Sandoval told the city commission about the latest package they will receive in 2019 from a state agency.
And some, if not all, of that money goes usually to improve water and sewer services.
But a consultant for the city said the next priority is street repairs.
Anthony Covacevich, who works for Grant Works, said a new deadline to apply for grants has been extended from the last of January to the last of March, giving the city 60 days to do so.
‘We need to have a lot of project activities as soon as we can,” he said during the last city council meeting of 2018.
“However, they are putting new emphasis on street projects,” he added.
At the meeting, the council approved a resolution naming Fulcrum Consulting Services as the city’s engineer of record.
