A Visit With Judge Mike Trejo and His Court
- Updated: June 28, 2013
After half-a-year of administering justice in his court room at the Cameron County Annex Building in La Feria, Mike Trejo
has settled comfortably into his new role as Justice of the Peace of the recently enlarged Precinct 5, Place 3. He knew it would be a tough, demanding job, but that is what he wanted.
He attributes the smooth flow of processing cases to his support staff. He said, “They are the best.” To learn more about the members of this inner circle, the judge gave LA FERIA NEWS a peek behind the scenes of his court and how it works.
The judge will tell you that he is a hardworking businessman with a long history in law enforcement on the local and county level. He will also tell you that he plans to be a hardworking justice dedicated to serving ALL the citizens of his great precinct.
“My goal is to give 110% of my efforts to unite local school administrations, school boards, city commissioners, and law enforcement agencies in Harlingen, La Feria, Santa Maria, Palm Valley, Santa Rosa, Combes, Primera, and Los Indios,” he said. “My court and offices will always be open so that we can take this Precinct to the next level. To accomplish that, I needed an efficient staff, and I have one–Let me introduce you to them.”
“My Court Administrator is Diana S. Garcia, who lives in San Benito,” he said. “When I came into office on January 1, 2013, I was privileged to begin to work with Diana S. Garcia, who was the Court Coordinator at the time,” he added. Mrs. Garcia has given over 16 years of great service to Cameron County while she served in the District Attorney’s Office from 1997-2008. She came to the La Feria Justice of the Peace office in 2008 where she continues to serve until the present time. Prior to this, Mrs. Garcia had worked for the Cook County State’s Attorney Office in Chicago, Illinois for 6 years. She specializes in Civil Court cases. She really impressed me with her administrative leadership skills. That is why I promoted her to Court Administrator.”
“The Court Coordinator is Susan “Sue” Gomez of La Feria,” he said, adding, “It brought me great pleasure to welcome her back out of retirement. She had served the Court for 25 years before retiring in 2009.” The judge continued: “I am the 5th judge she has worked for, and the funny thing is that I met Sue back in 1991 when I graduated from High School and began to work for the Cameron County Sheriff‘s Department. Sue is a true professional with great customer service skills. Many people say: “She is the face of this Court.”
Judge Mike Trejo chose Beatrice “Bea” Cavazos to be his Court Clerk. “I am honored to welcome back this lifelong resident of La Feria to help me run the court. Prior to coming back to Cameron County, Bea worked for the City of Harlingen as a Deputy Clerk with the Vital Statistics Department. She is a polite, hardworking employee who specializes in Death Certificates along with all other aspects of her clerical duties that it takes to make this a successful running Court.. Like the other officers of my court, she is very congenial and pleasant to work with—together we make a smooth-working, professional team to handle the daily business of administering the law in my Precinct.”
“So there you have my Court personnel,” the judge said, then commented, “I don’t believe I could have assembled a better staff to administer justice fairly and impartially.”
Judge Mike Trejo invites citizens to please not to hesitate in contacting any of his professional, dedicated, and hardworking staff members, who will ”ALWAYS” receive you with a smile for any request for assistance. Please call (956) 797-1887
