LIONS SUBDUE VAQUEROS IN STUNNING SEASON OPENER
- Updated: September 13, 2013
Lions Shut Out San Diego Vaqueros 28-0
by Coach Jaime Acuna
The La Feria Lions began their 2013 season just as they had hoped, with a big win at home in Lion Stadium versus the San Diego Vaqueros. The lion defense had a big impact in the opening minutes of the first quarter by forcing two turnovers that lead to two lion touchdowns. The second turnover was a forced fumble that was recovered by defensive back John Jasso, who returned it for a touchdown to put the lions up 14 – 0. The Vaquero offense had difficulty all night versus the swarming lion defense who forced a total of five turnovers for the night. The lion offense also did their part by scoring three touchdowns of their own to help in the opening win. Quarterback, Eric Cuervo connected on two touchdown passes to wide receivers Brian Casas and Angel Carrera in the 28 – 0 win. Senior running back, Marco Alejandre also chipped in with a rushing touchdown of his own. Overall, it was a very successful night for the lions and were happy to come out of the night with a big victory at home and will now be preparing for the La Grulla Gators and the Mercedes Tigers in the next couple of weeks. We would like to extend are thanks and praise for all the faithful lion supports for coming out to support these young men and a special thank you to all the parents and family members that were able to come join us on Parent’s Night.
