SERVE OUR SCHOOLS 2013 is Looking for Volunteers
- Updated: September 13, 2013

T-shirts were given to all volunteers and participants.
The Serve Our Schools (SOS) program is a national initiative of the United Methodist Church. Locally, the First United Methodist Church is spearheading a workday for C. E. Vail Elementary on September 14th beginning at 9am. All volunteers are welcome to help make bulletin boards for the hallway outside each classroom. Community service hours will be given to high school students who participate. T-shirts, bracelets and lunch will be provided for all.

Last year, landscaping work was done at David G. Sanchez Elementary to enhance the campus on the kick-off day. With the help of businesses and individuals, a weekend food backpack ministry helped feed students who might not have had enough to eat on the weekends during the school year. This ministry will continue at Sanchez Elementary again this year thanks to some generous sponsors.

udents’ work, shoes and socks, and books for each child to take home as their own. We hope to make good on these requests at this year’s kick-off day.
Another ongoing program that is requested at both campuses is one on one tutoring in reading with students who need some extra assistance. Can you help? Even an hour a week is a great gift to a child. You can call Sanchez Elementary at 797-8550 or Vail Elementary at 797-8460 to volunteer. You can be the person to make a difference in a young life.
