La Feria Superintendent and Valley Chamber President Speak to Local Chamber
- Updated: October 25, 2013
The La Feria Chamber of Commerce met Monday, October 14 and heard informative talks from LFISD Superintendent Rey Villarreal and Valley Chamber President Julian Alvarez.
Superintendent Villarreal offered an informative session on the LFISD TRE Election which is now open to early voters and will be held on Nov. 5.
“We are trying to maximize our spending sources by doing a tax swap. The change will not increase the total tax rate paid by local residents,” explained Supt. Villarreal. He added that the $1.7 million that would be realized by the TRE approval would be used for teacher pay raises, building safety upgrades and technology upgrades.
Valley Chamber Julian Alvarez pledged $1000 to the new La Feria chamber and told the group a little about the partnership.
The Rio Grande Valley Partnership, with its prestigious, sixty-eight year legacy of building businesses in South Texas, exists to cultivate opportunities.
Created in 1944, it unites a diverse and distinguished roster of leadership from across four counties.
Member Clim Gonzales announced that a Little Caesar’s Restaurant would be opening soon in front of El Centro Foods.
The members were reminded of the Mixer planned for Thursday, Oct. 17 at South Texas Pools and that the new meeting would be Monday, November 11 at 11 a.m. in the city commission meeting room. All are welcome to attend. For more information on the chamber call 797-2261.
