Open Letter from Commissioner Victor Gonzalez, Jr. for your consideration for Mayor
I, Victor Gonzalez, Jr. currently City Commissioner Position #4 serving a fifth term since May 2000, am seeking the position of Mayor of this great City of La Feria, Texas. I was born, raised and attended schools in our unique La Feria Independent School District, from which I graduated in 1971. I am married to Juanita Najar. We have three children, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. We are members of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in La Feria. I attended Valley Central Business College in Harlingen, Texas from 1972-1974 obtaining certificates in Accounting. I am a certified State of Texas Code Enforcement Officer, Past President of the La Feria Jaycees, a young men’s development organization which raised funds to attend self-development meetings throughout the Valley, district and area conferences within the State. The Jaycees assisted individuals and families in need of emergency funds in which I chaired multiple fund raising projects. I sponsored and managed Gonzalez & Company Softball Team, which competed throughout the Valley 1974-1983. I managed several divisions of the La Feria Pony League. My past employment experience has been with Hino Gas Service, Harlingen, Texas, 1973-1976 handling accounts receivable, accounts payable, and sales; Silvestri Paving Company, Chicago, Illinois, 1976-1999, Road Building Construction Superintendent; City of Harlingen, Harlingen, Texas, 1999-2005 Public Works Superintendent. City of Mission, Mission, Texas 2005-2010, Public Works Streets and Drainage Director; and City of Mercedes, Mercedes, Texas 2011-2013, Public Works Senior Supervisor. I retired in June 2013. As an elected public servant of the City of La Feria since 2000 and having served on the La Feria Economic Development Corporation Board (LFEDC) and the Water and Wastewater Steering Committee, I have always strived to promote economic development and improve the quality of life for everyone in the community.
