Parents participate in District-wide Conference at Santa Rosa ISD
- Updated: December 13, 2013
Balancing work and family sometimes becomes a difficult task, especially during tough economic times. All too often, parents are forced to work longer or hold more than one job. These and other factors usually contribute to less quality time spent with family. In an effort to help parents learn about their children’s emotional needs, the Santa Rosa ISD held a District-Wide Parent conference that focused on these issues. The conference offered sessions to parents on family strengthening presented by Will-Cam Pupil Services staff Ms. Marta Martinez and a session on understanding emotional needs of students presented by Rio Grande Valley Council. RGV Council provided a teen session to help middle school and high school students increase awareness of the risks of alcohol and substance abuse. Mr. Heriberto Villarreal, School Superintendent, welcomed the families and thanked them for their continued support in their children’s education. All three campus principals, Ms. Trevino, High School Principal, Mr. John Gray, JNMS principal, and Mr. Salazar, EEB principal, conveyed to parents the importance of being involved in their children’s education and stressed the importance of working together as a team. At the beginning of the conference, families had an opportunity to visit with many social service organizations and government agencies on services available to families ranging from health care, school services, and family counseling services. Conference participants were treated to a warm festive tamale dinner plate and refreshments. The conference was co-sponsored by the Santa Rosa ISD’s Federal Programs, Migrant Program, ACE 21st Century After-school, and the UTPA Social Work Interns.
