The La Feria Chamber of Commerce met Monday, January 13 at the La Feria Recreation Center. The chamber elected new officers for the 2014 business year.
Robbie Zapata was elected president and Reva Ayala accepted the nomination as vice-president. John Ftacek will continue as treasurer and Carmen Cadena will be taking over the job of secretary.
The fledgling organization has more than 30 members and will again be active in community events around La Feria, including the Fiesta de La Feria and the 4th of July Celebration. A new feature this year will be “open houses” of local businesses once a month to further get better acquainted with our business professionals in La Feria.
City of La Feria Events Coordinator Tabitha Outlaw was the guest speaker this month. She informed the members of the activities expected at this years’ Fiesta de La Feria scheduled Saturday, February 22. Tabitha suggested ways the chamber could contribute to the event and showed them the visitor’s guide booklet.
The next meeting of the chamber will be February 10 at 11 a.m. For more information on attending a meeting or becoming a member, please call Tabitha at 797-2261.
