Gonzalez Sworn-in as Mayor of La Feria
- Updated: February 14, 2014
The City Commission held a special session on Monday, February 3, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Commission Meeting Room, 115 E. Commercial Avenue, La Feria, to canvass returns and officially announce the results of the Special Election for Mayor. Former Commissioner Victor Gonzalez, Jr. won the mayoral race over opponent Lori Weaver by a margin of 175 votes on January 25th.
The Meeting Room was standing room, filled with Gonzalez’s friends, family and supporters as well as others from the community. Former Mayor Steve Brewer oversaw the short meeting, presenting the Certificate of Election before giving the floor to Judge Rogelio “Roy” Valdez, who then swore Gonzalez into the office of Mayor. Before being sworn in, Gonzalez reflected on his time on the La Feria City Commission and reassured the former Mayor, Commissioners and public that he planned on continuing the good work that the present Commission had started.
After being sworn in, the newly elected Mayor’s first duty was to ask if there were any public comments before asking for an action for adjournment and inviting all in attendance for refreshments at a reception held in the La Feria Fire Station.
