Fire Scorches Brush Along Arroyo in Harlingen
- Updated: August 27, 2014
Harlingen firefighters, with assistance from La Feria firefighters, put out a brush fire / grass fire that burned eight to 10 acres of land on the north side of the Arroyo Colorado Hike & Bike trail in Harlingen by 1:22 a.m. Wednesday morning (today).
The emergency call for assistance reached the Harlingen Fire Department at 11:38 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26. The fire of undetermined cause spread up the banks of the arroyo in an area between the railroad tracks and C.B. Wood Park. There were no injuries and no property damage, according to firefighters on the scene.
Firefighters returned to the arroyo for a separate grass fire incident at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday (today) and they left the scene at 8:05 a.m.
Assistant Fire Chief Cirilo Rodriguez said citizens and guests should use caution with any heat or flame sources due to the dry, windy conditions outdoors. The fire department will provide protective service to those who obtain fire permits.
