The La Feria Lions (Midgets) of the TYFA Organization have claimed the title of “Division One- District Champions 2014 this year. The team consists of 6 and 7 year old players who have led a great undefeated season. They finished their regular season with an undefeated record of 8-0. The team played all throughout the Rio Grande Valley and proved ready to make their way out of the Valley to compete with other teams. The team started their journey to the playoffs on November 15th, 2014 and were given a first round by that weekend. The Lions had their first game on November 22, against the Harlingen Hawks at Bobby Marrow Stadium. The Lion team came out on top with a winning score of 40-0.
More recently, the La Feria Lions had a game at Tom Landry Stadium against the Del Valle Ducks. The Ducks were are number four ranked team in their division, but once again the Little Lions came out victorious with a score of 32-13. The number two ranked team, the La Feria Lions, have moved up on the TYFA.com official bracket and are set to play in the Semi-Finals on December 6, 2014 in Floresville, TX against the San Antonio Jr. Broncos.
These 21 kids had been practicing since early August with Head Coach Moises Rivera and several other dedicated coaches. They practice 1 1/2 – 2 hours daily and have dedicated themselves to this sport. We would like to wish the whole team and the coaches a safe trip to Floresville!
