Winter Texan Activities in High Gear

Full Slate of Events
The month of March marks the peak of winter events for winter visitors and local citizens alike to join in on the fun. It’s a great time of the year.
Let’s see: We’ve had Fiesta La Feria, Border Fest, Ground Hog Day, special events at the local RV parks, the Shriner‘s Club Breakfast and Bingo, the American Legion programs for veterans, and the Mercedes Livestock Show–all have been well-attended this year according to reports.
A super event for Winter Texans was reported by Orville Kuron of the Palmera Heights Mobile home and RV park in La Feria. He tells us that club members and their guests celebrated Valentine’s Day in great style. The men of the park got together and provided a special dinner to celebrate the 20th Valentine’s Day party held at the park.
Kuron added that the men decorated the dining hall, planned the delicious menu, purchased the food, and cooked it. Then they took on the role of waiters and served the club members and their guests themselves, then cleaned up afterwards—the whole ball of wax, and were the ladies pleased! “The boys did a pretty good job,” they said.
To entertain the guests, the men arranged for free pictures of couples to be taken by an associate park member, Theresa Littrell. They also arranged for entertainment after the meal by a popular, professional entertainer “ Ruthi” and her musical show.
“But, don’t think the ladies took the sidelines and didn’t contribute,” Kuron said, “The Ladies Club held a raffle for a beautiful quilt made by the ladies and 6 other prizes after the dinner. Seven lucky winners went home with their prizes.”
The evening was enjoyed by all who attended. “Now, we’re already getting ready for next year’s Valentine’s Day Celebration.“
A word to the wise: There are a few more weeks left of this year’s Winter Festival season. That means there is still time to check out the scheduled winter events in your neighborhood, neighbor, and join the fun.
