Now in its nineteenth year, the Adrian Dominguez Scholarship Race/Walk/Dash returns to La Feria this Saturday, April 4 at the Veteran Memorial Park Sports Complex.
Creative race outfits are welcome for the fun day planned at the complex located on Pancho Maples Drive in La Feria.
All registered participants will receive a commemorative race t-shirt as well as juice, soft drinks or bottled water. Prizes will be raffled off the day of the race.
Medals will be awarded to the top female/male 5K run and 1 Mile walk participants in all age categories.
Trophies will be awarded to the top male and female runners and a trophy for the school with the most runners. There is a category for everyone from 13 and under to over 70 years of age.
Net proceeds from the race will fund scholarships for students from La Feria High School.
The race was first established in 1996 by local resident Manuel Dominguez in honor of his son, Adrian, who had spina bifida. It is now the longest-established five kilometer race in the Rio Grande Valley. The event benefits the Los Diez Education Foundation, which awards scholarships to area students; so far, 54 students have received a collective total of more than $20,000 to pursue higher education.
For more information or if you would like to donate to this fine cause call Tavo Rubio, 797-3001 or Jaime Casas at 797-1068 after 6 p.m. Applications for the race are available at the La Feria News offices or can be downloaded here.
