Hospital Chaplains Offer Bereavement Support Groups: To Console Those Grieving Loss of a Loved One

Chaplains at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen offer three Bereavement Support Groups, which are free and open to the public, for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one:

• BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP – This group is designed to give tools and support to those who are grieving. The group meets weekly, on the first four Tuesdays of every month, at 6 p.m., in the Boggus Education Pavilion, across the street from the Valley Baptist Emergency Room off Benwood Drive in Harlingen, in Room 1.

(The group also meets monthly in Brownsville, on the second Monday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville Medical Professional Building, 844 Central Boulevard, Suite 480.)

• BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP FOR PARENTS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE LOSS OF A BABY – This group is for parents who are experiencing the loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn death. (Valley Baptist also holds a special neonatal memorial service in October for grieving parents, led by Chaplain Joe Jaime.)

• COMPASSIONATE FRIENDS SUPPORT GROUP – This group is for parents who have lost a child, no matter the age of the child. The group meets the first Tuesday of odd number months (January, March, May, July, September, and November) from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Valley Baptist Boggus Education Pavilion, Room 5.

(The group also meets the first Tuesday of even numbered months in McAllen)
