City of La Feria Celebrates 9th Annual INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

The City of La Feria Events Committee is diligently preparing for the 9th year of the La Feria Independence Day Celebration scheduled for Saturday, July 4 from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m.
This family event will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Sports Complex at 904 Pancho Maples Dr. in La Feria. The yearly event is a patriotic event which recognizes our local military veterans and offers a fun day of food and entertainment for all ages. There will also be raffles held for the veterans and the public as well as freebies for the children.
The Veteran’s Raffle is free to veterans and will be awarding a 48” Vizio Smart TV to one lucky winner. The public raffle will be raffling off a pack of four Cinemark movie passes, a 32” Vizio TV, a 15.6” HP Laptop, and a ‘Backyard Grill’ 5 Burner Stainless Steel Gas Grill. Raffle tickets for the public raffle will be on sale for one dollar.
The “Smokin Heroes’ Bar-B-Q- Cook Off” will start at 9 am with pay out categories for brisket, pork spare ribs and BBQ chicken. Jackpots will be held for fajitas and beans. This is the fifth year of the Smokin Heroes’ Cook Off and the event is a sanctioned International Barbeque Cookers Association event. Family fun activities begin at 1pm and include a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, food and merchandise vendors, water slides, moon jumps and train rides, a sack race, watermelon eating contest, water balloon toss and a veterans motorcycle show.
The evening program begins at 6pm featuring recognition of our veterans as well as live music provided by the Mega Beats. Free glow necklaces for the kids starting at 8:30 pm with a spectacular fireworks display which conclude the event starting at 9:30 pm.
