La Feria Lions Ready to Roar in 2015
- Updated: August 14, 2015
This year’s team is ready to put the maroon and gold back on the map
The La Feria Lions Football teams began practice earlier last week and are ready to make some noise this year. High School football practice began on Monday, August 3rd at 7:30 a.m.
These young men have been ready for this day for some time now and were pumped to strap on their helmets.
The 7 on 7 football team qualified for state this summer and did very well against some top notch programs. This experience has raised the community’s attention to just how dangerous the Lions can be this upcoming year.
The Lion defense are bring back their leading tackler from last season Randy Cantu, and they’re also bringing back an experienced defensive line led by Ryan Puente, Damian Canales, Gonzalo Alegria, and converted linebacker David Zapata.
The secondary will be new this year with the loss of five starters from last year’s squad, but thery’re all very athletic and hungry to try to earn a starting spot this year.
The Lion offense brings back several key returners on the offensive side of the ball, including quarterback Isaac Galpin who’s leadership and athleticism are top notch.
Many other skilled players are back for the Lions, including last year’s leading rusher, running back Russ Gonzalez.
A bevy of talented receivers with speed to burn have also returned. Brandon Perez and Julian Trevino are back to give quarterback Isaac Galpin two dangerous weapons.
Newcomer Isaiah Martinez has proven he can make big plays and will be a perfect fit for the Lion’s no huddle offense.
All in all, the 2015 La Feria Lions will bring back speed and talent which will hopefully get them back into the playoffs in 2015.
