Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Acting Administrator Jim Macrae today announced $63.3 million in Affordable Care Act funding to 1,153 health centers in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 7 U.S. Territories to recognize health center achievements in providing high quality, comprehensive care. Su Clinica, based in Harlingen, Texas, was awarded a total of $94,720.00 for being a proven leader in preventive care and clinical quality improvement. Su Clinica was one of only 61 health centers nationwide to achieve recognition as a national quality leader. National Quality Leaders are recognized for exceeding national clinical benchmarks for chronic disease management, preventive care, and perinatal/prenatal care, demonstrating the critical role that health centers play in promoting higher quality care.
“Today’s funding rewards those health centers that are achieving the highest levels of clinical quality performance and improvement,” said HRSA Acting Administrator Macrae. “The awards will help health centers continue to provide comprehensive primary care to the nation’s most vulnerable communities.”
Su Clinica, CEO, Elena Marin, M.D., was honored by the announcement. “Su Clinica has been serving Cameron and Willacy County residents for over 44 years and its mission has not changed,” she stated. “Improving the health and well-being of this community is our top priority. Our focus on quality and commitment to excellence has been imbedded into our culture and without our consistent effort to improve systems of care, we would not be able to perform successfully.”
Dr. Marin also expressed pride in the achievement and the recognition it brings to the region. “It is always rewarding when we find out how well we are performing against our peers which include over 1,100 health centers across the country. Being recognized by HRSA as a National Quality Leader, in the top 5% of all centers in the country is amazing. I am so proud of our organization, our board of directors, and the positive recognition this brings to the Rio Grande Valley,” she added.
