by Coach Jaime Acuna
The La Feria Lions traveled to Donna to open up their season versus the Donna North Chiefs last Friday night. The Lions started off slow but then got on a roll as the game went on.
Running back Luis Fernandez scored the first touchdown of the night on a short run for the Lion offense. Wide Receiver, Brandon Perez and quarterback Isaac Galpin also added to the lead as they both added a touchdown in the first half making the score 21 – 3 at halftime in favor of the Lions.
The chiefs came out of halftime fired up and scored on two touchdown passes and on a short run to take the lead 24 – 21 late in the game. The Lions would not be denied as Isaac Galpin scampered 83 yards down the chief sideline to get the Lions ahead 28 – 24.
Free safety Mohammed Mughrabi would later intercept a pass by the Donna North quarterback and run it back 73 yards for a touchdown to put the game away for the Lions. The Lions went on to win the game 34 – 21.
