The Mighty Lion Marching Band received a Division One at this year’s Pigskin Jubilee
The La Feria High School Mighty Lion Marching Band has been performing at Friday night football games, showcasing their drum line and color guard with their Batman vs Superman inspired Dawn of Justice theme show this year.
The LFHS band directors began working on this year’s show shortly after their trip to the state marching competition last year. The staff met with the composer in February and decided upon the Marvel Superhero themed show. Students began learning the music and the marching routine in late July and put in many evening hours practicing.
Rain or shine, the band has been practicing countless hours, perfecting their marching routine and competing in various pre-pigskin competitions taking place in La Joya, Rio Hondo, Donna, and Robstown over the course of the Fall.
All this preparation and dedication paid off when, on Saturday October 17th, they traveled to La Prade Stadium in Donna, TX to participate in the 73rd annual Pigskin Jubilee high school marching band contest.
The annual contest is a highlight of the marching band season as bands test their mettle each year.
This year the band received a Runner-up Best in Class Drum Line designation, Best in Class Color Guard designation and a Best in Class Drum Majors recognition as well as an overall Division 1 rating for the band in Class 4A.
Prior to the 2015 Pigskin Jubilee Marching Contest, the band attended four practice competition bringing home some beautiful trophies. The band placed 2nd at Donna, 2nd at Lajoya, 2nd at Rio Hondo, and 1st Best Overall and Reserve Grand Champion at Robstown.
Congratulations to the students and parents and thank you for being a positive example of talent, hard work, and determination!
