Dominguez Elementary Student Excels in Area Chess Puzzle Competition
- Updated: November 27, 2015
Santos Esteban Najar from Dominguez Elementary in La Feria placed 1st in the District UIL A+ Chess Puzzle Solving Competition.
Chess puzzle competition is very different from tournament chess play. Contestants in a chess puzzle contest receive a paper-and-pencil test that includes a series of chess boards with pieces in particular positions. Questions are based on analysis of material or possible moves in each given diagram.
Santos was one of forty competitors. Santos’ proud parents Fernando and Monica Najar would like to extend their special thanks to their son’s chess coach Raquel Bocanegra-Zambrano. Congratulations to Santos!
