La Feria ISD Sends Team to Present at TCEA
- Updated: February 29, 2016
TCEA (Texas Computer Education Association) is a member-based organization supporting the use of technology in education. Founded in 1980, TCEA has been playing a vital role in increasing technology funding and access for PreK-16 schools for 35 years.
The TCEA Annual Convention and Exposition brings together campus and district-level educators to explore best practices for engaging students, increasing productivity, and innovating teaching and learning through the use of technology.
In February, La Feria ISD sent 14 educators from throughout the district to attend this year’s conference at the Austin Convention Center.
The district sent in several presentation topics for approval by TCEA and one was approved. The topic was Becoming a GAFE District and Loving It!
The main purpose of the presentation was to share our journey as a district in incorporating the Google Apps for Education platform from the infrastructure to the implementation in the classroom. We are very proud of this achievement as this is the first time La Feria has sent a team to present in a conference of this magnitude.
The team included Ms. Veronica Torres-C&I CTE Coordinator, Mr. Daniel Salinas-Technology Director, Mr. Gilberto Prado-C&I Curriculum Coach, Mr. Peter Geraldo-Lead Technician, Mrs. Veronica Alejandro-High School CTE teacher, and Mrs. Kristy Jimenez-Junior High Math Department Chair.
The presentation showed the timeline of how the district prepared the infrastructure to maintain the GAFE platform and how C&I provided staff development to the campuses and how the teachers use Google Apps for Education in the classroom and how the students have been very welcoming of this new process.
