NFL Honors LFHS Alum Jim Hudson

La Feria High School received a football on Tuesday, February 9th from the National Football League in honor of one of the first players to ever win a National Championship in college and a Super Bowl as a professional – La Feria High School alumnus Jim Hudson.
Graduating from LFHS in 1961, Hudson would go on to play for the New York Jets from 1965 to 1970, playing in both the AFL and NFL. He started in Super Bowl III for the Jets, and made a key interception just before the end of the first half.
Born in Steubenville, Ohio, Hudson grew up in La Feria, where his father, Maurice, a retired steelworker, had settled with the family.
A stand-out athlete, excelling in basketball, track and football in high school, Jim Hudson won the 2A State Championship in discus with a throw of 169-9 in 1961.
After graduation from LFHS and an illustrious career playing for the University of Texas, Hudson would go on to play for the New York Jets from 1965 to 1970, playing in both the AFL and NFL. He started in Super Bowl III for the Jets, and made a key interception just before the end of the first half.
