La Feria FFA Excels at Area Competition

This last week turned out to be very successful for the La Feria FFA. They competed in the Annual Area X FFA Career Development Events Contest held in Robstown, April 14, and in College Station, April 16. The FFA Chapter has three teams now advancing to state contest.

Career Development Events build on what is learned in agricultural classes and encourage members to put their knowledge into practice. These events are designed to help a member prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging the student’s technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills as well as their knowledge of the subject matter. CDEs answer the question, “When will I use this knowledge in the real world?” (Texas FFA Association)

State contest for Wool and Horse Judging will be held on April 23, 2016 at Texas Tech University, and Meats Evaluation will be held April 30, 2016 at Texas A&M University.

Wool judging: Adriana Muniz (Top 10 individual), Layala Castillo , Nadia Olivarez – 1st Place District,5th Place Area. State Qualifier;

Meats Evaluation: George Lazaro, Deseree De la Cruz, Justin Martinez, Richard Garcia – 1st Place District,5th Place Area. State Qualifier;

Horse Judging: Juan Contreras (Top 10 individual); Liza Rodriguez, Nina Lazaro, Frankie Johnston – 1st Place District, 5th Place Area. State Qualifier;

Vetrinary Technician: Juan Contreras, Rayann Crum, Liza Rodriguez – 2nd Place District, 21st Area;

Agriculture Mechanics – Travis Crum, Guillermo Mata, Tony Reyes, Justin Martinez, 3rd Place District, 13th Area;

Nursery Landscape – Citlalli Gomez, Ashley Perez, Nina Lazaro – 2nd Place District, 8th Place Area; Livestock Judging – Syerra Montalvo, Frankie Johnstonm, Bianca Torres, Sam Trevino – 7th Place District;

Poultry Judging – Dakota Johnston, Ayla Hernandez, Richard Garcia – 2nd Place District, 25 th Place Area;

Farm Business Management – Japeth Rosales – 2nd Place District,10th Area;

Tractor Technician (Compete, February 3) – Frankie Johnston (Top 10 individual), Travis Crum (Top 10 individual), George Lazaro (Top 10 individual) – 1st Place District, 5th Place Area;

Dairy Cattle Judging (Competed April 8) – Layla Castillo, Adriana Muniz, Desiree Cantu, – 1st Place District, 13th Place Area.
