A Tribute to Our Police Force

Yellow Rose Park Pays Respect

Every year the residents of La Feria’s Yellow Rose Park show their appreciation for the work of the local men in blue with a gift of home-made cookies to the officers. However, this year, their visit had perfect timing for “we are also showing our support for the brave police officers nationwide in view of the tragic events of the past few weeks,” Park Manager Judy Krabbenhoft said.

“The volunteer ladies of the Park prepare cookies to be delivered to the La Feria Police Department and the Fire Department every year because we are so grateful for protecting us during the year–especially during the summer months,” she said.

“We need to let the police officers know we support and respect them because they are the only protective wall we have against lawlessness and anarchy,” Judy added.

She explained: “we are one of the smallest parks in the area, and we are not a gated-community. The police know that, and make special patrols during the day, and door checks at night. It makes the year-round residents feel safer. “The fire department even has a special number we can call if someone falls or has an accident alone–we don‘t have to call 911.”

“It’s a sad commentary on the times when brave law enforcement officers are being targeted and killed in many areas of the country,” she said, adding, “it’s the least we can do to show we appreciate and thank them for their bravery and dedication.”

Judy has 13 years of experience managing parks with 3 years here at Yellow Rosa Mobile Home and RV Park. She and her husband Leo came to the Valley after she retired from being a public school teacher in Wisconsin. “It’s not correct to say ‘I retired‘, rather just changed jobs,” she laughed. This lady actually initiated the “Cookies for the Police” project. She is always interested in hearing from others who support the work of the police and fire departments. Her number is 797 2726

LA FERIA NEWS visited with police Chief Cesar Diaz about what the force thinks about these kind gestures of the Yellow Rose Park ladies.

The Chief said the men on the force really appreciate that these ladies would take the time to bake these fabulous home-made cookies and deliver them to the station.

Then he added: “Our job as police officers is getting harder every day. The tactics of criminals are constantly changing and the threat of terrorist acts is always in the back of our minds.”

Diaz said, “The officers on the force are also fathers and husbands. We have emotions and experience stress just like everybody else; that is why we appreciate what these ladies did, and their words of thanks.”
