Changing of the Guard

In a ceremony held on Thursday, July 7th at 10:00 a.m, Cesar Rene Diaz was sworn in as the new Police Chief of the City of La Feria Police Department. The swearing in ceremony took place at the La Feria City Commission Meeting Room located at 115 E. Commercial Avenue, La Feria, Texas. The Meeting Room was standing room only as citizens, family, local media, law enforcement representatives from La Feria and surrounding towns, and the La Feria City Commission gathered to witness the new chief’s induction.
Diaz has served as the elected Constable for Precinct 5, Cameron County since 2001. Prior to that he was with Cameron County Sheriff’s Department for a period of 8 years.
A press release published by the city of La Feria stated that Diaz comes to the department “with a wealth of law enforcement and administrative experience”.
Diaz takes over as Chief of Police following the retirement of Chief Donato Garcia. Chief Garcia who has retired after 27 years of service to the La Feria Police Department, serving as Chief since 2001. Garcia was presented with a key to the city at the beginning of the ceremony by Mayor Olga H. Maldonado.
