Senator Lucio Recognizes Departing Chief, Lieutenant at Recent City Meeting

The La Feria City Commission held its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, June 28, at 6:30 p.m. in the City Commission Meeting Room at 115 E. Commercial Avenue in La Feria.
After observing the usual protocols of a regular meeting (invocation, pledge, determining quorum present, call to order, and a review and approval of past meetings’ minutes, and public comments), the commission opened with a special presentation by Texas State Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. recognizing several La Feria city officials.
Among those recognized were recently elected city commissioners Victor Gonzalez, Jr. (former mayor), Eric Hoff, Jesse Zuniga and newly elected mayor Olga H. Maldonado.
Senator Lucio also recognized retired Police Lieutenant Adolfo Luna, who retired from the La Feria Police Department last October after 20 years of service.
Also recognized by the Senator was retiring Police Chief Donato Garcia who is stepping down from service after 27 years with the La Feria Police Department. Senator Lucio presented the Chief with a boxed flag and a certificate.
The city also recognized the accomplishments of Lieutenant Luna and Chief Garcia, presenting each of the retirees with plaques commemorating their time with the police force.
The city then passed a proclamation that Thursday, July 7, 2016 as Chief Donato Garcia Day in the city of La Feria. There will be a swearing in ceremony on that day for newly appointed La Feria Police Chief Cesar Diaz at City Hall at 10 a.m. The City will present the Key to the City of La Feria to Chief Donato on that day. The public is invited to attend.
Following a closed session for attorney consultation by the commission, there was a public hearing held for the rezoning of several areas including the La Feria Land & Irrigation Co. Subdivision and the Rabb Heights Subdivision as well as a public hearing to amend the La Feria Code of Ordinances for type of land use that is presently unlisted for a business seeking to locate in the city. No action was taken on these items since they were to only be discussed as a public hearing with another hearing to be scheduled for an upcoming city meeting.
The next meeting of the La Feria City Commission is scheduled for Tuesday, July 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the City Commission Meeting Room at 115 E. Commercial Avenue in La Feria. The community is welcome to attend and an agenda can usually be downloaded from the city’s website.
