The La Feria Lions traveled to Corpus Christi this past Friday to battle the upstart Eagles of Veteran Memorial. The showdown matched two high powered offenses and some very tenacious defenses.
Both the lions and the eagles came into the game undefeated with perfect 3 – 0 records.
The lion offense put La Feria on the board first with a 19 yard run by running back Darius Hernandez. Alexis Rubio would then follow up the touchdown withe the extra point kick to make it 7 – 0 in favor of the lions.
Quarterback, Jonathan Leija would then find wide receiver Brandon Perez on a 24 yard touchdown pass to increase the lead to 14 – 0 at halftime.
The lion defense shutout the high powered eagle offense in the first half by constantly putting pressure on their very athletic quarterback.
For the game, the lion defense had 6 sacks and forced to 2 interceptions. Mark Tamez led the team in tackles for the game with 14 total. Right behind him was defensive end Nico Vasquez with 13 tackles and 3 sacks. Linebacker, Victor Luna chipped in with 12 tackles and 1 sack.
With the win, the lions improve to 3 – 0 for the year. They faced an old foe (Port Isabel Tarpons) for Homecoming last Friday, September 16 at Lion Stadium. Both La Feria and Port Isabel came into the matchup undefeated with perfect 3 – 0 records.
