Lions Tame Jerseys 41 – 20
- Updated: September 16, 2016
by Coach Jaime Acuna
The La Feria Lions were back to their old tricks again last Friday night, September 2, 2016, in Falfurrias.
The Lions scored early and often giving La Feria a 21 – 0 lead over the Jerseys going into halftime. Speed kills, and that’s exactly what the Lions used to their advantage versus a good Falfurrias team. Quarterback, Jonathan Leija found wide receiver Brandon Perez for three touchdowns for the game. Perez scored on receptions of 29, 24, and 29 yards for the night.
Running back Darius Hernandez also had an impact in the game by rushing for 177 yards on just 8 carries and scored 2 touchdowns for the game. His second touchdown was an 85 yard scamper for a score. The Lion defense also did their job on taming a bruising running game by the Jerseys.
Overall, the Lion defense had a total of ten tackles for loss in the game. Strong safety Marc Tamez, led the team in tackles with 14 for the night. The Lions went on to win the game 41 – 20 to improve their overall record to 2 – 0 for the season.
They travelled to Corpus Christi this past Friday, September 9th, to face the undefeated (at press time) C.C. Veterans Memorial team.
Coverage of that game online next Friday.
