Lions Claw Past Pirates 49-10

by Coach Jaime Acuna
The La Feria Lions took care of business last Friday night versus the Hidalgo Piratess 49 – 10 at Bill Pate Stadium. The win over the Piratess, assured the Lions another playoff spot. It also has gotten them one step closer to their goal of becoming Back to Back District Champions.
The Lions jumped on the Piratess early and often in the first quarter by outscoring them 21 – 3. Julian Trevino scored two of the touchdowns while Darius Hernandez added another. The Piratess were outmatched in every facet of the game.
Leading 28 – 3 going into halftime the Lions came out on fire the second half when defensive back, Robert Ceballos picked off a pass for an interception and ran it in for a touchdown to increase the Lions lead to 35 – 3.
Overall, the Lion’s offense is continuing to give opposing defenses problems because of their speed at the skilled positions and because of their physical running game.
The defense is causing turnovers and is playing fast and physical as well. The Lions have an open week before returning to play the Grulla Gators at home on Friday, November 4, in what may determine the District Champion.
The Lions celebrated their District Championship at Lion Stadium last year on the last district game of the season and hope to do the same this year when the Grulla Gators come to visit Lion Country. Good luck to all the boys and the coaches, Roll Pride!
