Descendants of Spanish and Mexican Land Grantees Seek Justice
- Updated: December 2, 2016
by Victor Moreno/LFN
“You were wronged” states Jose Sierra, Jr., president and spokesperson for Two Countries One Lie, at a special meeting held in La Feria to unite the heirs of the biggest families which existed in South Texas during and after the Mexican American War.
Two Countries One Lie is a group of Spanish and Mexican land grant descendents dedicated to finding justice for the alleged victimization of their ancestors. The group met to consider the next steps in their quest for justice for the alleged fraud that was perpetrated on Spanish and Mexican land grantees via the 1941 Convention between Mexico and the United States which was to serve as a ‘final adjustment and the settlement of certain unsettled claims of Nationals of the United States of America and of the United Mexican States’.
Mr. Sierra presented arguments and documents which added validity to the groups’ claims of an alleged injustice. Other spokespersons for the individual families presented information and collaborated to unite the families to further their cause. The group is to hold another meeting at McAllister Hall auditorium at San Antonio College on April 22, 2017. After the meeting all attendees were treated to a fried fish dinner graciously provided by the Hinojosa family who sponsored the La Feria event. For more information regarding the group, their message or a list of names of original land grantees of the State of Texas go to www.twocountriesonelie.com or Facebook/Two-Countries-One-Lie.
