Helping the Homeless & Hungry at Christmas & Throughout the Year
- Updated: December 30, 2016
HARLINGEN – Employees of Harlingen Medical Center have received accolades for many works of charity, including continuous support of a local organization that helps house the homeless and feeds the hungry.
On a periodic basis, Harlingen Medical Center makes a donation to Loaves & Fishes of the Rio Grande Valley, and hospital employees go to the homeless shelter in Harlingen to help serve meals to the needy.
In recognition of Harlingen Medical Center’s “valuable contributions to our mission and ministry”, the Board of Directors of Loaves & Fishes presented a plaque to the hospital for helping in the organization’s efforts to provide help and hope for the “hungry, the homeless, and the hurting.”
Harlingen Medical Center, along with Our Lady of Assumption Church in Harlingen, was one of two organizations in the Valley to receive this recognition during Loaves & Fishes’ 25th anniversary celebration this fall. The event featured inspiring stories from former clients of Loaves & Fishes whose lives have been made better by the charitable organization.
In addition, Harlingen Medical Center helped raised $10,000 for Loaves & Fishes during the annual HMC Annual Charity Golf Tournament in November. These donations were made possible through the support of Valley businesses, Valley residents, and the hospital, all who came together to support Valley people who are making a difference in the lives of others.
“Harlingen Medical Center is committed to making life better for the people we serve here in the Rio Grande Valley,” Ms. Ivory added. “Making this donation is a wonderful opportunity for Harlingen Medical Center to bring more than health and wellness to our community in a clinical setting; it allows us to financially support our community. It is a privilege to give back.”
The Harlingen Medical Center Charity Golf Tournament is hosted in November.
